Sawatari Kaede is a lonely high school girl who lost her parents when she was a child. On her way home from school one day, a black cat suddenly appears and leads her to a house with the words “Sumikko Gohan” written on the door. It is a communal kitchen where people come together to enjoy meals despite their troubles. Kaede begins to perceive the meaning of living through the kindness and suffering of these people and the delicious food. However, a crisis soon threatens the existence of this communal kitchen
